Total Invest in UK Shale Gas Exploration

Shale Gas Exploration

It has been reported that the French Oil & Gas giant ‘Total’ will be investing £12.7 million in the UK’s Shale Gas exploration programme. Total have been awarded 2 more licenses for the exploration, this comes after Prime Minister David Cameron claimed that “the whole of the UK should support fracking”. It will create thousands of jobs for the country and help to reduce energy bills.

Previously major oil companies have waited for more than 5 years before investing in shale gas production in the US. However, the UK will receive this major Oil & Gas company backing while the industry is still in it’s infancy. This isn’t to say there will be obstacles along the way, the idea of fracking has already been ridiculed against and protests arranged at sites.

There are, like always, positive and negative impacts associated with Shale Gas exploration, but with this large investment awarded environmental groups will find it hard to stop this industry from growing.
