Our client is part of a world leading organsiation. Due to the continued development and significant investment in their Lancashire plant, we are looking for a further Shift Manager to be a key driver of their production process.
The role will primarily require the successful applicant to lead a shift team of employees empowering them to be self-motivated, develop and drive key performance targets, engage and develop team members to safely deliver operational requirements across the department and to provide feedback on a regular basis to the Plant Manager. The role will involve implementation of continuous improvement using TPM and 5S to demonstrate eradication of losses and waste and to continuously improve results.
Due to the production process and setup the Shift Manager directly manages the operatives rather than indrectly through team leaders, and can also need to get involved in the production process themselves.
So we are looking for someone with both the ability to manage and lead in a structured and professional way, as well as getting their hands dirty and workng directly on the process.
This is a safety critical environment so strong HSE focus and skills are also crucial.
Key responsibilities will include:
Operate and drive a zero accident culture delivered through leading by example and working with effective tools and processes available.
Ensure teams utilise and apply safe systems of working and identify and create opportunities to improve working environments using continuous improvement.
Lead with a passion for quality, ensuring that team members have the skills and capability to complete Quality assurance and control checks as required.
Respond to non-conformances in a timely manner, communicating appropriately with key stakeholders and taking urgent action to escalate and redress any deviation away from company standards.
Demonstrate a drive to win attitude and approach, showing determination and resilience to improve line efficiency results and achieve target service levels.
Demonstrate active involvement in optimising the workplace, by engaging and developing team members in problem solving skills and capabilities, and work towards aligning the management team to sustain and improve standards.
Create an environment that delivers high performance through effective performance management and development planning.
Demonstrate effective and professional communication skills with people at all levels of the business.
Constructively leading and facilitating team meetings, problem solving exercises, site presentations.
Understand and actively contribute to improving the financial impact of operational performance by minimising raw material and product loss and controlling stock levels accurately.
To supervise and manage agreed budgets and capital expenditure specific to your area of control.
Ensure regular audits of area and equipment are maintained.
Collaboratively work with the Shift Management team to ensure consistent standards are applied and all service expectations and department KPI’s are achieved (internal and external).
Be fully accountable for working with your team to develop and complete continual personal development plans and continually embrace learning new skills and developing existing skills is a fundamental requirement of all employees.
You will possess the following skills and experience:
Strong leadership background and able to demonstrate sound judgment and technical competence and the determination to optimise performances.
Ability to inspire, motivate, direct and guide others.
Excellent people management experience with a proven track record of managing, leading and developing production team in a manufacturing environment - preferably process plant (brewery, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical etc.)
Engineering qualifications or technical background beneficial, not essential
Excellent knowledge and experience of applying continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience of working and managing change within a unionised environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
