MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (AUTOMOTIVE):  18 MONTH CONTRACT SALARY CIRCA £34K CHESTER / NORTH WALES AREA, LARGE MULTINATIONAL COMPANY UNDERGOING A PERIOD OF GROWTH AND POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT.

Our client is part of a huge multinational company with operations and offices all over the world, with an innovative and high technology range of products. As part of their continued growth they are presently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive their aim of World Class Manufacturing at their North Wales plant, which is easily accessible from the Wirral and Chester.

Understand present and future problems with the manufacturing of specialist products. To implement robust and sustainable improvements to raise the process capability to industry standards.
 
 Job Summary

Support the Production Operations team in achievement of KPI’s by concentrating on the contribution of lean manufacturing support and training within a strong Emphasis on Engineering and Maintenance.
Focused on improving the current performance in areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
Focus on the development of a continuous improvement culture within the organisation, guiding product and process improvement activities by promoting the utilisation of lean manufacturing methods, and by creating standards and work instructions. 
Work towards the Operation activities in achieving the objectives set out annually.
Understand the Operations capacity versus the customer demand and find ways to support and ensure ‘On Time Delivery’ and Quality is in mind.
Focus on Waste reduction initiatives and ultimately Lead Time reduction in order to be more responsive to customer demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Support development and formalisation of a cohesive global Lean Production System, for the implementation of standardised production management tools, including visual management, lean techniques and lean training across all manufacturing facilities.
Provide support to Operational Personnel to ensure all deliverables and project tasks, are completed in accordance with Operations KPI structure, as required.
Provide production engineering support to all production operations, from raw material through each production process to warehouse and shipping.
Review/analyze, via strong data collection, production processes and make recommendations for improvement actions based on a clear cost v benefit analysis. (using standard formats)
Utilise your experience and knowledge in optimisation of the business in areas such as materials, machinery, methodologies and processes.
 Develop activities and proposals to change, reduce waste and improve productivity around the site whilst looking at innovative solutions to challenging problems.
Analysethe manufacturing methods, production processes and also the production schedule involved in delivering the products to the customer, on time with quality. 
Support Operations management to clearly identify the future requirements of manufacturing. “Support the Sales and Operations Planning Process”
Identify ways to Optimise the complete value stream, from Raw Material through to warehouse and shipping.
Consider also the ‘indirect’ activities such as logistic methods, parts transfer and movement, warehousing etc. in all improvement activities.
Develop new products and processes or improve current manufacturing products and processes.
Undertake process improvement activities, monitor improvements and report on their success.
Participate in cross-functional projects as dictated by the emerging business needs.
Purchase new manufacturing equipment, conduct and audit time studies for productivity and develop standards, work standards and line balancing techniques for productivity.
Identify manufacturing cost reductions. Optimise processes to reach product quality, efficiency and process repeatability.
Provide training, guidance and support for the use of lean manufacturing techniques and design by considering what is ‘value adding’ and ‘waste’
Optimise work flow and cell designs for the complete process.
Design machine and tools for new product or process. 
Support new product development and the processes to manufacture them.
Support the development of new products and processes in conjunction with other engineering departments
Track and execute projects to completion with clear target setting and visualisation
Provide training and fashion standards and manuals to identify and implement improvement techniques such as  ie TPM, 5S, etc
Document manufacturing operation instructions and provide training to operations personnel.
Assist with new manufacturing process design
Assist with the investigation and resolution of product and process concerns
Undertake CAD work and maintain drawing records 
Ensure that all new manufacturing processes/process improvements are verified in accordance with the ISO9001 requirements
Utilise data analysis / monitoring to support problem solving process
Assist in the APQP process for fastener manufacturing processes.
Assist with the PPAP process as required
Develop flow systems, including kanban pull systems, material handler schedules, heijunka levelised production and, wherever possible, fixed repeating schedules.
Guide ‘Kaizen Workshop’ group activities to focus on the identification and elimination of manufacturing waste.
Oversee the creation of training and presentation materials for all lean manufacturing topics.
  
EDUCATION OR QUALIFICATIONS:

Good Technical Education to HNC/HND/Degree level complimented by a good practical skill base
Experience of working with CAD and/or 3D Modeling
Good Practical Engineering skills and approach
Strong experience of using lean tools in a lean manufacturing environment.
Sound understanding of lean thinking, tools and application.
Ability to make decisions, use initiative and carry out appropriate actions in line with the company policy and strategy
Conscientious, positive attitude to quality and workmanship
