The Client

Our client is part of a huge multinational company with operations and offices all over the world, with an innovative and high technology range of products. As part of their continued growth they are presently seeking a Category Manager to be based in the North West of England.

The Role
 
Our client has developed a World-Class Manufacturing initiative for global operations, which includes creation of a professional procurement organization. The Category Sourcing Specialist role has been created to lead regional strategic sourcing efforts for certain spend categories, and to assist in managing the procurement function for all European operations.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the European Procurement Manager, the Category Sourcing Manager is responsible for the overall management and delivery of regional sourcing strategies to the business. He/she is the principal owner of the sourcing process for assigned categories and is in charge of stakeholder management, preparation and execution of negotiations and making final supply recommendations to the business. The Category Sourcing Specialist will also assist the European Procurement Manager in leading the company's procurement efforts in Europe. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Together with the European Procurement Manager, create a culture of procurement excellence in Europe so that procurement is viewed as a strategic partner, commercially responsible for procurement of all materials and services across the business in Europe.  
  • Assist in building internal capability - encompassing people, processes and technologies across procurement, engineering, manufacturing, finance, customer service, etc. allowing the company to leverage its size and global position to identify supply partners that position for optimal growth and profitability;
  • Under the framework of the global procurement plan, develop specific category team plans for assigned spend categories, including milestones, savings targets, resource requirements and implementation plans;
  • Develop Europe wide category goals. Track financial results, implementation performance and supplier performance; identify gaps and variances in performance and make adjustments to restore performance to plan;
  • Support global and regional procurement initiatives to partner with Finance and the P&L owners to develop target financial goals and results, manage supplier performance to meet defined business requirements and develop procurement talent across the organization.
  • Lead the development of negotiation strategies, cost modeling and sensitivity/scenario analysis to help stakeholders understand trade]offs and business benefits of various negotiation strategies/outcomes;
  • Lead negotiations with shortlisted suppliers; communicate results to business; develop final sourcing recommendation(s) and ensure broad support among stakeholders;

Qualifications Required

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Certifications:
- CIPS - Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply

Software Proficiency:
- MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint (required)
- SAP Software Experience preferred

Skills and Experience Required

- Experience in procurement for manufacturing operations (chemical, automotive, FMCG, aerospace, pharmaceutical, process) particularly raw materials (chemicals, energy, minerals)
- Prior experience within a large complex, multinational organisation
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across a range of nationalities and cultures
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills
- Proven track record of delivering cost savings, cost efficiencies and continuous improvement
- Outstanding communication skills
- Additional language skills preferred (German, French)
